When peaceful civic agitation meets brute state force, nobody wins. But understanding why PoJK has erupted requires looking past surface-level headlines and examining the deep-seated grievances driving the local populace into the streets.
The Roots of Unrest in PoJK
For months, the region has been rocked by intense demonstrations organized largely by groups like the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC). What started as localized dissent against economic burdens and political disenfranchisement snowballed into widespread civil unrest.
Citizens are pushing back against structural inequalities, inflated utility and commodity costs, and an administrative framework that many feel ignores local voices. Central to these grievances is fierce opposition to the reservation of legislative seats for non-residents, which protesters argue dilutes genuine political representation.
Instead of addressing these core demands through open dialogue, authorities responded with iron-fisted tactics. The human cost has been devastating. Multiple lives have been lost, countless individuals have sustained injuries during crackdowns, and basic freedoms have been suspended.
Economic Suffocation and Communication Blackouts
Protests rarely happen in a vacuum. When governments cut off the lifelines of a community, desperation takes over. In PoJK, the situation has been aggressively worsened by sweeping restrictions on essential commodities, daily necessities, and fuel supplies.

Global bodies often hesitate to address internal crackdowns in regions managed by Islamabad, allowing systemic human rights abuses to slip beneath the radar.
